Breeding Salt Tolerant Crop Plants

For thousands of years, farmers have bred plants to produce desired characteristics. Now, scientists at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) are working to develop new varieties of plants which can grow in extreme conditions. In this video, KAUST professor Mark Tester explains how new salt-tolerant and heat-resistant strands of tomatoes and quinoa can open new possibilities for food production.
