"Deeper Than You Think" J. SAMPLE, Guitar Arr. Kâzım ÇOKOĞULLU

The piece was composed by the American jazz pianist Joe SAMPLE. The legendary guitarist George BENSON played the piece in his album called "Absolute Benson. I just arranged it for the guitar solo. Turkish guitarist and composer Kâzım ÇOKOĞULLU gave recitals in guitar festivals, played concertos with İstanbul, Bursa, Eskişehir, Bilkent and Çukurova state symphony orchestras, appeared in both national and international events as a soloist and a chamber music group member. He released his first album in 2015 with his ensemble Sırnağme. In 2013, his composition for solo guitar “Fantasy on a Theme by Tanburi Mustafa Çavuş” was chosen for an album called “Meeting the Guitar;Turkish Composers and Performers” which is a collection album of important guitar compositions by Turkish composers. ÇOKOĞULLU studied his Bachelor’s Degree at Bilkent University Classical Guitar Department, as a student of Kağan KORAD. In 2007, he was accepted to The Juilliard School and Manhattan School of Music with rare full scholarships. Choosing The Juilliard School, he studied the Master of Music program with Sharon ISBIN, in New York City. He was also granted prestigious “Ahmet Ertegün” scholarship during his education in New York. Graduating from The Juilliard School, he started the DMA program at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, in İstanbul and graduated in 2013. Guitarist formed a music ensemble called Sırnağme when he got back to Turkey after his stay in New York City. The ensemble consists of three instruments; Guitar, Kemençe (a traditional Turkish bowed instrument), percussions and generally performs the master pieces of Turkish Music repertoire. All arrangements and harmonizations of the pieces belong to the guitarist. Being a versatile musician, guitarist likes to arrange different music styles to the classical guitar. He has made solo guitar arrangements of famous jazz tunes and Turkish folk songs. Kâzım ÇOKOĞULLU teaches classical guitar, harmony and ear training classes at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University State Conservatory since 2011 as a faculty member.
