During the month of January, the Holy Catholic Church honors the name above all names: the Most Holy Name of Jesus. "This is that most holy name longed for by the patriarchs, anxiously awaited, sought with groans, invoked with sighs, requested with tears, bestowed upon the fullness of grace," expressed the Franciscan missionary Saint Bernardino of Siena. The feast day is January 3rd, exactly eight days after Christmas, but it is commemorated throughout January, a month also dedicated to the holy childhood of Jesus. It is believed that the Most Holy Name of Jesus began to be venerated in the liturgies of the 14th century, a devotion largely propagated by Saint Bernardino of Siena and his disciples. Indeed, in 1530, Pope Clement VII granted the Franciscan Order the privilege of celebrating the Office of the Most Holy Name of Jesus for the first time. Let us pray daily to the Blessed Virgin Mary, asking for her intercession with this powerful prayer of Saint Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort and with the Holy Rosary, so that we may receive and give many blessings each day, in the name of God, and so that His Holy Spirit may guide us every moment, with the powerful intercession of our Heavenly Mother, so that her Immaculate Heart may finally triumph!
