A national television audience and a full house at Gable House Bowl won't soon forget the championship performance staged by Del Warren, as he won four games and the Greater Los Angeles Open in Torrance, Calif. The lanky 25-year-old blistered the pins for games of 228, 260, 236 and a championship game 256-218 win over Mark Williams to clinch the $18,000 winner's check and a spot in the $250,000 Firestone Tournament of Champions. His 980 total for four games translated into an average of 245 and marked the second straight week a player won four consecutive games to march to the title. Randy Pedersen turned the same trick in the season opener to win the AC-Delco Classic. Warren first eliminated Steve Wunderlich, 228-200, then sandwiched 11 strikes around a 4-6-7-10 split in the fifth frame for a 260-225 win over Marshall Holman. Warren then set himself up for the title game by eliminating Southern California native Mark Baker, 236-200. CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND Pos.
