Black History in Motion: Oakland Celebrates 100 Years of Culture, Community & Legacy

Oakland came together to celebrate this year’s powerful theme, “Black History in Motion: Culture, Community & the Future We Build (1926–2026).” The event honored the city’s deep roots while looking ahead to the next generation of leaders. Filmmakers Adriane Hopper Williams and Derick Williams shared their reflections as artists and storytellers, highlighting the importance of preserving Black history through film and community engagement. Artists, organizers, and community leaders transformed the celebration into a space filled with reflection, pride, and joy — recognizing those who continue to protect and uplift Black history in Oakland. It was a night of remembrance, resilience, and a shared vision for the future still being built.
