Olga Carmona's first-half goal settled a tense finale to the tournament played out in front of 75,000 fans at Stadium Australia in Sydney. On his way out of the arena, Spain fan Rodrigo told the Associated Press he believed the deserved winners came through after they "controlled" the game. Another Spain supporter, Charmaine, said she was "absolutely ecstatic" and "very proud" of the team, known as La Roja, who secured the country's first Women's World Cup success. Also attending the game were England fans Jackie and Kate, who despite the defeat said they had an "amazing" experience throughout the tournament in Australia.
