The Titanic was the largest passenger ship in the world...and was considered unsinkable. Over 2,200 passengers and crew members were looking forward to the maiden voyage from Southampton to New York in April 1912. But on April 14, 1912, at approximately 11:40 p.m., the magnificent ship collided with an iceberg and sank within two hours and 40 minutes. It was the worst disaster in passenger shipping history, claiming the lives of over 1,300 people.
