I want what Bob was having that night. Or maybe he had big plans after the show. Or maybe it’s just how much he usually seems to love playing in NYC. Whatever got into him that November night in ‘98 at New York’s Madison Square Garden, Dylan was in an ebullient mood. He tries to deliver his classic anthem of wistful wondering and wounded meditation that first put him on the map with the sensitivity the wonderfully simple yet powerful verses deserve. In between, though, he can’t seem to keep from breaking into broad grins and striking some playful rock star poses as he plays to the audience’s excitement. So this may not be Dylan’s most soulful rendition of Blowin’ in the Wind, but it’s fun to watch and listen to. Therefore maybe a good choice to post today, May 24th, 2025, for celebrating the bard’s 84th birthday!
