Mid of police entering Quito prison STORYLINE: Ecuador government decreed a state of emergency and curfew after police kidnappings, several acts of violence and possible escape of a dangerous drug lord. Authorities said there were vehicle fires, explosions, as well as the kidnapping of four police officers. Social networks and digital media reported an explosion on a bridge and the burning of a vehicle with gas cylinders in a populous neighborhood south of Quito. There was also a motorcycle set on fire in a satellite town of the Andean country's capital. No injuries were reported in those acts. The police confirmed on its X account, formerly Twitter, that it apprehended two citizens suspected of one of the explosions registered in the south of the capital. He said that the subjects were found with a firearm and 16 explosives sticks. Adolfo Macias, alias Fito, the leader of one of the main organized crime groups known as Los Choneros, disappeared from a Guayaquil prison on Sunday, according to authorities. His whereabouts remain uncertain.
