Dr. David Samadi - Breast Cancer Prevention News: Proper Diet Can Help

Dr. David Samadi of the Fox News Medical "A-Team" and Chairman of Urology at Lenox Hill Hospital provides breast cancer prevention tips. Over 200,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. Much like prostate cancer, early detection is key to curing the disease. When it is detected early there is a 95% cure rate at 5 years. Some steps that can be taken to help prevent breast cancer include: Regular exercise and weight loss -- Reducing body fat reduces estrogen, which in turn reduces the risk of developing breast cancer. Early detection -- Talk to your doctor about appropriate screening methods for women in your age and risk group. Have a healthy diet -- Eat fruits and vegetables and be sure to get enough of the good fats (Omega-3) found in foods such as salmon, tuna, and avocados. Avoid white flour and sugar, and instead replace them with whole grain alternatives. Also, avoid alcohol and fatty foods such as grilled red meats. Finally, anything that increases estrogen levels may increase your risk of developing breast cancer.
