In this episode of India Upfront, the host Rahul Shivshankar will discuss how in response to allegations that there is continued violence against Muslims in India, the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman pointed out that since 1947, the Muslim population in India has grown while minorities of all kinds have been "decimated" in Pakistan. She said that Indian Muslims continue to lead normal lives and questioned those who accused the Indian government of wrongdoing about if the Muslim population had dropped or whether there had been an exceptionally high number of fatalities in any one group since 2014. In addition, Sitharaman stressed during a lecture at the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington, DC that law and order is a state matter and not the responsibility of the Indian government.
