DAY – 12: SHARING OF PAIN At the gate of a small town, called Nain, Jesus came across a funeral procession. The bier bearers carried the dead body of the only son of a widow to the burial ground. Seeing the helpless widow weeping in distress at the demise of her only son, Jesus was moved with compassion. He realized the pathetic condition to which the widow will be reduced in the absence of her only son on whom she depended. Jesus did not limit himself to words of consolation to her but worked to find a permanent solution for her sorrow. Lord, you are the hope of the hopeless and voice of the voiceless. Hence, you gave hope and voice to the poor widow of Nain by bringing her only son to life. Your eyes saw her heart and you shared her pain. Lord, help each one of us to be like you in our attitude and behaviour. Empower us to protect and care the widows, widowers, parentless young children. Let not the caste, creed, and gender hinder us in extending help to those in need. We also offer at your feet all who undergo tough struggles in life, having none to care. Be their strength and solace.
