Orlando Mural Project #8 VooDoo Electric Kalimba
This OMP video features my hand-made instrument the VooDoo Electric Kalimba. I made this over a year ago out of a piece of wood, plumber's 'fish tape' (for the tines), and a magnet wrapped with wire for the pickup. It's run thru a Big Muff pedal, and an octave pedal... The Orlando Mural Project is something that I’ve wanted to do for a while, so while my student, Rylande Dodge was here, he helped me out on 2 different days, and we shot a bunch of short videos, most with only drums, some with electric kalimba and drums, and others with Rylande playing bass, and myself on drums. The concept is that I’ve always been a fan of what some might call graffiti, but I prefer calling them murals, because of the negative connotation graffiti often caries with it. I feel like mural art adds a vibe to a city, and Orlando has a lot of great local artists who’s work is represented all around the city. Rylande and I captured about a dozen or so, and I’ll be releasing these every Friday for as many Fridays as it takes. So far, everything was done on Edgewater Dr., and Mills Ave, and there are still a bunch of murals on Mills that I haven’t had a chance to get to…. yet. But there will be more to come- so stay tuned! In all cases whenever possible, I try to give credit to the artist, however, some murals did not show artists tags, so I simply state where they can be seen. I hope you enjoy this series!
