Clinical neuropsychologist Dr. Bill Stixrud and neuroscientist Dr. Fred Travis during a Q&A with DLF's Bob Roth on the subject of meditation and the brain. This event was held at NYC's Rubin Museum of Art and featured a live EEG scan of the brain during Transcendental Meditation. Bob Roth: "The problem of stress has become so acute, severe, chronic and toxic. Everyone is aware of it. The amount of research in top referee journals on meditation and TM to prevent and address the problem of stress is so significant. It's been a game changer." Dr. Travis: "The brain begins to integrate the restful alertness of pure consciousness into daily life. You're transforming the inner nature of the mind. By transforming your inner nature, you can begin to see problems as challenges rather than stresses." Dr. Stixrud: "The optimal state for learning is relaxed alertness. It's just the way our brains work. When we are stressed, we respond instinctively. What we know in relation to learning is when young people meditate, it works. When you are less stressed, you can focus better and you can organize your thinking better."
