Chapter 12, "The Life We Deserve," is a pivotal and chaotic chapter where Amicia is reunited with her mother, Beatrice, only for the Count to betray them. The reunion takes place at the Count's palace, but the Count, wanting to sacrifice Hugo to his wife, sets a trap. After a confrontation, Beatrice is killed, leading a devastated Hugo to unleash a massive rat swarm that destroys the palace.
