Close-up of Greek flag with dark cloud STORYLINE Traffic jammed the streets of Athens early on Tuesday as public transport workers continued a strike against austerity measures. Commuters opted taking their cars after the Athens metro, buses and trolley buses held a 24-hour strike. The tram operated normally. More strikes are planned for the rest of the week. Other commuters were seen riding bicycles or walking; tourists opted for taxis. Faced with mounting anger from the country''''s international creditors, the government recently announced a raft of new austerity measures to secure the next 8 (b) billion euros (10.7 (b) billion US dollars) instalment of bailout loans from the 110 (b) billion euros rescue package it has been dependent on since last year. Without the funds, Greece only has enough funds to see it through mid-October, when it faces the prospect of a messy default.
