The team that ends the Houston Texans’ win streak might need a little “Luck” in order to do it. Well, the Indianapolis Colts have Andrew Luck and we’ll have to see if that’s enough when these two AFC South rivals square off in the Lone Star State in Week 14. The Colts have gotten the early interest from sharp bettors to drive the number down from +5 to +4.5, but the fact that we reached a point of resistance at 4.5 is a sign of how tepid the sharp action was. Make no mistake, though, this game does have the hallmarks of a sharp vs. public split. The total has not moved much from 49.5 to 49. The loss stopped a five-game winning streak and put the Colts in with the glut of 6-6 teams in the AFC hoping that the Ravens slip up. Indianapolis is now 6-6 straight up and 5-6-1 against the spread. The Colts are also dead even at 6-6 on totals. This game will mark the first time since Week 6 that the Colts have been an underdog. The Colts go as Andrew Luck goes. Luck didn’t go too far last week. He completed 33 of his 52 pass attempts, but only managed 248 yards. He failed to throw a touchdown pass for the first time this season and was sacked three times. That was more sacks than Luck had taken in the previous seven games combined. That is a bad sign with Houston’s stellar pass rush on tap this week. Luck did throw for 464 yards and four touchdowns in the first meeting, when his offensive line was still in shambles. Nyheim Hines had his best receiving effort of the season in that game and his number may get called more this week after Marlon Mack struggled last week. Houston just keeps winning games. Nine of them in a row, to be exact. The Texans are 9-3 straight up, yet somehow just 6-5-1 against the spread. The Texans have won and covered in each of the last two weeks at home and this ends a three-game homestand. Houston has not turned the ball over in five of its last six games and taking care of the football is usually good for an under. The Texans are 7-5 to the under for the season. The Texans have a shot at winning 10 games in a row. They’ve only won at least 10 games twice in a season in franchise history, which dates back to the 2002 season. Maybe bettors just shouldn’t overthink it with the Texans and dig too deep into the numbers. Deshaun Watson is a solid quarterback that takes care of the football. He has only thrown nine picks for the season and only two in his last five games, although he has been sacked 41 times this season. Lamar Miller is having a career year with five yards per carry and Watson has been a valuable runner with 5.4 yards per carry on 69 attempts. DeAndre Hopkins is one of the best at his position with 80 catches for 1,115 yards. : Picks & Predictions: SU Winner – Houston, ATS Winner – Indianapolis, O/U – Over 49 pts Looking at the numbers is an essential part of any handicap, so that’s what we’ll do here. While the Texans are doing a good job preventing points and taking care of the football, they are an average offensive team and a team that ranks 27th in red zone defense. They are 15th both offensively and defensively on third down. They’ve allowed 41 sacks and are somehow -7 in sacks with JJ Watt and Jadeveon Clowney on the team. It is hard to see a team like that continue to have this level of success. Those that have faded the Texans all along have paid quite a price for it, but this magic has to run out at some point. The Colts came back to earth last week against Jacksonville, so they should be plenty motivated to get back in the win column. While we don’t think they’ll be able to do that, they should be able to keep this game close. Andrew Luck has gotten great protection and the defense is much improved. We’ll look for Houston to make it 10 in a row, but lose against the spread and also for a lot of points on the fast track at NRG Stadium.
