Drawing Birds - California Thrasher

Here is a short drawing video of my California Thrasher. As you can see I begin with pencil and am not afraid to erase and begin again. I then use prismacolor for the bird and his friend, Ms Ladybug. Life is not meant to experience alone, so I added the ladybug with a promise that she would not be eaten. In my imagination the California Thrasher sings for Ms. Ladybug in the hope that she will become his friend. No, she isn't a bird, but just a dear best friend willing to listen to his song. Most people don't like his aggressive nature and he has few friends in the bird world. She is small, but unafraid as she sees his true nature beneath his facade. Jodi Bonassi, Serenade For Ms Ladybug (California Thrasher), 2022, Mixed media on Arches paper, 11 x 5 3/4 inches The California Thrasher loves to dine on insects, nuts and berries. His diet includes beetles, true bugs, grasshoppers, spiders, cicadas, caterpillars, grasshoppers, sowbug, earthworms, snails, crayfish, and even frogs and lizards. Thrashers are aggressive (hence the name). They will thrash through dirt and leaves with their long bills searching for food. This brown bird is also known for attacking dogs or people (sometimes drawing blood!) when defending their nests!
