Stadium general battling tips: I think of the three Pokémon choices as lead, cover, and sweeper. For the lead, I generally choose Zapdos (the hammer) or Starmie (the swiss army knife). The hammer is a heavy hitter, able to hit many Pokémon for good damage. It is strong enough to overpower other Pokémon. The swiss army knife hits most Pokémon hard as well but instead of brute force it relies on type coverage and hitting super effectively. My sweepers are Focus Energy Jolteon and Amnesia Slowbro. If Zapdos or Starmie does better than either and is not the lead, I choose it instead. Cover is what "backs" up the lead choice. Since Zapdos and Starmie are weak to electric types, this is usually Coconuts.
