Protesters in front of Brandenburg Gate STORYLINE: Several hundred people protested in Berlin on Wednesday against the Iran regime, one of a series of demonstrations held worldwide following the death of a 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish woman. "We want to send a united signal to Iran that women and the opposition are not alone there. We, the lawmakers, and the people in Germany are in solidarity with the people protesting in Iran. We follow their protest and developments in Iran," German lawmaker Goekay Akbulut told the Associated Press. He was talking part in a protest in front of Brandenburg Gate. Mahsa Amini was arrested by morality police in the Iranian capital Tehran and died in custody. Her death has sparked nearly two weeks of widespread unrest that has reached across Iran’s provinces and brought students, middle-class professionals and working-class men and women into the streets. In Iran, state TV has suggested that at least 41 protesters and police have been killed. An Associated Press count of official statements by authorities tallied at least 13 dead, with more than 1,400 demonstrators arrested. Globally, many protests have been staged in solidarity with the demonstrations in Iran. "We are here today because women in Iran are not free," protester Bernaz Nasiri said as she stood in the German capital holding a photograph of Amini. "All young people and women in Iran are on the streets right now protesting every day against the dictatorial regime in Iran." =========================================================== Clients are reminded: (i) to check the terms of their licence agreements for use of content outside news programming and that further advice and assistance can be obtained from the AP Archive on: Tel +44 (0) 20 7482 7482 Email: [email protected] Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork Twitter:   / ap_archive   Facebook:   / aparchives    Instagram:   / apnews   You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/you...
