A prophecy from the 1930s foretells the assassination of the Pope on a 24th of September "when fire falls from the sky over the city of angels." 80 years later, a meteor falls from the sky over Los Angeles. Captain of the Swiss Guard Andrea Conti, a defrocked priest, starts to worry right away that the pope may be in danger on his upcoming visit to Cologne cathedral September 24th. The handsome former priest teams up with attractive police inspector Sara (and her jealous partner Frank) to ensure the Holy Father's safety. When a middleman is arrested for trying to buy a rocket-launcher on the black market, Conti's worst fears are confirmed: An expert hit man, called The Surgeon, is in town and has been offered €25 million for the life of the Pope by a stranger. Now the investigators know one thing for sure: A killer is out there, somewhere. A race against time begins... It is not until 80 years later, when a meteorite plunges into the ocean over Los Angeles, that the Holy See becomes seriously alarmed. The Vatican has not forgotten Joao's Prophecy, and it seems that parts of the prediction are now coming true. So security is reinforced for the Pope's impending trip to Cologne, and Vatican security officers Andrea Conti and Paolo Naldini are dispatched to the city on the Rhine to see to the Holy Father's safety.
