Sunday Re-Wind: Wow!!! What an awesome job our children and youth did on Sunday morning with the Christmas Program—Unfrozen. I am grateful for each participant in the program and would like to especially express my appreciation to both Amy Werling and Gayle Loflin for their labor of love in preparing and pulling off such a wonderful program. Christ was exalted and the gospel was clearly proclaimed. In other news, we held our regular, quarterly business meeting last night at Canyons Church. I am thrilled to report that in the meeting we finalized a process that has been underway for some time. Here’s a quick look at the time-line: (1) November, 1999—at the UISBC meeting, the decision was made to plant a new church in the Hispanic community of Midvale, (2) February, 2000—The Midvale Church was born, (3) December, 2003—growth led to worshiping in a new location and name was changed to Iglesia Bautista Pan de Vida, (4) Early 2008—Iglesia Bautista Pan de Vida began worshiping at Canyons Church on Sunday afternoons (after the Canyons Church services), (5) July, 2008—Iglesia Bautista Pan de Vida called Rafael Gutierrez as Pastor, (6) August, 2017—Pastor Mike Gray invited Iglesia Bautista Pan de Vida to join in worshiping alongside of Canyons Church at the same time, which allowed children and youth to be a part of Life Groups in Canyons Church. The church became known as Canyons en Espanol, (7) December, 2019—Canyons Church voted to absorb Canyons en Espanol into the membership of Canyons Church. To summarize the actions adopted last night: (1) Canyons voted to absorb Canyons en Espanol into the church generally, then (2) Canyons voted to receive the individual members of Canyons en Espanol into the membership of Canyons Church, as we would any new members, effective immediately. These new members have already publicly professed faith in Christ and join by transfer, then (3) Canyons voted to call Pastor Rafael as an Associate Pastor of Hispanic Ministry, effective 1/1/20. This is a part-time pastoral staff position, as Pastor Rafael will continue bi-vocationally, as he also teaches Kindergarten in the Granite School District, (4) The Hispanic Ministry was included in the 2020 budget, now approved by the church, (5) The regular tithes and offerings of the Hispanic Ministry will be received by Canyons Church, effective 1/1/20. The regular giving of the Hispanic Ministry has proven more than sufficient to cover salary and ministry needs for the last two years, (6) This decision effectively disbands Canyons en Espanol. From this point forward, we are simply Canyons Church. However, the Hispanic Ministry will continue to have a weekly service in the Life Center in Spanish, and (7) we will continue the process/transition of assimilating our new members into the life of the church in 2020. Please join me in praising the Lord for 33 new members yesterday in total. I am grateful to God to be a part of a church that “gets the mandate” that we are to make disciples of all nations!!! To God be the glory. – Pastor Jason This Week @ Canyons—Re-Minder: Monday, Finance Meeting, 6:30 pm Monday, BSF Leadership Meeting, 6:55 pm Monday, Women’s Bondage Breaker Study, 7:00 pm Tuesday, Staff Meeting, 8:30 am Tuesday, Ladies Bible Studies, 9:30 am Tuesday, Associate Pastor Search Team Meeting, 6:00 pm Wednesday, No Family Worship, Resumes 1/15/20 at 6:30 pm Thursday, Bible Study Fellowship, 7:00 pm Friday, Hispanic Ministry of Canyons Rehearsal, 7:00 pm Saturday, Hispanic Ministry of Canyons Seminary, 9:00 am Sunday, December 22 No 832 No Life Groups Coffee available in Life Center, 10:00—10:55 am Family Worship Service, 11:00 am (Worship Center) No Kid’s Church Sunday afternoon (12/22) Praise Band/Worship Team Rehearsal, 3:30 pm Choir Practice, 5:00 pm
