Oak Keepers sedition trial begins

Tuesday morning five members of the far-right militia group The Oath Keepers are facing decades behind bars. The trial kicked off Monday with the five defendants charged with seditious conspiracy, a rare and serious charge that carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison. The five have pleaded "not guilty." Among them is the group's founder Stewart Rhodes. In opening statements, federal prosecutors said that Rhodes and the other defendants "concocted a plan for an armed rebellion" and "banded together to do whatever was necessary" to stop the transfer of power between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. According to the FBI, Rhodes allegedly began planning to disrupt the transfer of power soon after the November 2020 election.
