Strengthening Maternal and Newborn Care: Uganda’s Local Maternal and Newborn System (LMNS)

The local Maternal and Newborn System (LMNS) is a national initiative by the Ministry of Health to reduce sickness and death during pregnancy, delivery, and the postpartum period, including among newborns. It represents an innovative approach to enhancing coordination and accountability for maternal and newborn health services in Uganda. It operates at regional and district levels, utilising physical and virtual platforms like WhatsApp to bridge communication gaps between frontline health workers and decision makers for swift life-saving decisions.
