February is Black History Month in the U.S.A., and The Cinemarijuana Theatre is no exception. In the interest of celebrating things (which we are quite apt to do), we thought it might be fun to take a look at a few important and/or iconic films by black filmmakers and/or black performers. To kick things off, Las Películas Sábados Gigantes went back in time to revisit one of the greatest black talents in history, Paul Robeson. The first of two of Robeson's films we screened was The Emperor Jones (1933). A rags to riches story almost completely unlike any other we have seen.
