Earlier this year, the city of St. Petersburg decided to partner with the Tampa Bay Rays, selecting the team's design plan for redeveloping the 86-acre Historic Gas Plant site where Tropicana Field now sits. That gamble appears to have paid off. The team, the city, county leaders and stakeholders have called a news conference for Tuesday morning to announce what is widely expected to be a deal that will keep the Rays in St. Petersburg for decades to come — and a new, estimated $1.5 billion 30,000 seat dome-roofed stadium.
