Can a ND Filter and different GoPro settings get rid of the GoPro effect?

So I recently watched a video by Luca Cometti about how he changed the settings in his GoPro and used an ND filter to show more of the real world speed of the trail as well as tame down that GoPro affect. (no pun intended). So I thought I would give it a try to see if my footage looked more like what I remember from the trail. Let me know what you think?
