Chad, Niger Launch Joint Offensive Against Boko Haram - Mar 10, 2015

Chad and Niger have launched a joint offensive against Nigerian-based terror group Boko Haram. The army operation exemplifies the regional push to end the Sunni Muslim group’s six-year insurgency, which has been marked by suicide bombings, kidnappings, and village raids. Boko Haram has expanded cross-border raids into Cameroon, Chad and Niger in recent months, and leader Abubakar Shebau has recently pledged allegiance to ISIS, or Daesh. Nigeria has pleaded for the international community to do more to stop the jihadists.
