(29 Aug 2021) A home in eastern Afghanistan was struck in a U.S. drone attack in retaliation for the deadly suicide bombing at Kabul airport on Thursday. The Pentagon said an airstrike early Saturday in the eastern province of Nangarhar, which borders Pakistan, killed two “planners and facilitators” of the Islamic State group's Afghanistan affiliate. President Joe Biden has vowed to keep up airstrikes against the Islamic extremist group whose suicide bombing at an airport gate killed at least 60 Afghans and 13 American service members. Saturday's drone mission came less than two days after the Kabul attack and a public pledge by Biden that he would make IS “pay” for their suicide bomb attack. Officials made no claim that the two individuals killed played a direct role in Thursday's Kabul airport attack.
