Friday Evening Tropical Update: Tropical Storm Beta forms in the Gulf

Tropical Storm Beta has formed in the Gulf of Mexico. An upper trough over Texas is pulling it northeast, but should keep it from blowing up into much at this time. By the weekend it will slow down and start to head west thanks to a ridge building over the area. This could allow the storm strengthen as it slowly drifts west toward Texas. By early next week, weak troughing over Texas could turn the storm back NE and toward the north-central Gulf coast. Obviously this is FAR too early in the forecast and development stages of the storm to put any faith in. There is a tremendous amount of uncertainty in this forecast due to the slow movement by this weekend into next week. We'll keep an eye on it and make sure you're following along closely.
