Final Fantasy IV: Ultima is a hack by 8-bit fan that aims to present a more expansive version of the classic. New weapons, spells, bosses, and a modified overworld are just a few of the changes on tap. The latest version of the patch can always be found here: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/4134/ Well, Leviathan blew up the ship and Cecil finds himself alone on a beach. Nothing left to do but go east and enter the town (after Cecil executes a Zu that felt like being a smartpants). The town's name is...Mysidia. Yeah, the same town he swiped the Water Crystal from. Talking to basically any non shopkeeper NPC is going to result in them chewing Cecil out. Some will even hit him with frog or pig statuses. For now though, Cecil should go have a word with the elder. He hasn't forgotten about what happened in the past, but he's willing to listen to Cecil's plea. He wants to save Rosa, but how to do that when his sword will not beat true evil? As the elder states, he could renounce his dark side and walk the path of a paladin. Many have tried to climb Mt. Ordeals, but none have succeeded. Cecil remains steadfast in wanting to pursue this path though so the elder summons two highly skilled mages, Palom & Porom, to assist Cecil in his quest. Palom & Porom are Cecil's replacements for magical assistance. Palom specializes in black magic while his twin sister Porom goes the route of white magic. Both start out at only lv10, but will pick up levels fast and start getting some of the tier 2 spells, making them infinitely more useful. Both twins have access to the aptly named Twin command. With this, both twins go into their casting animation. If either one gets ko'd, the effect ends. If it completes though, the twins combine their power for one of two randomly chosen AoE attacks. Pyro is the most common AoE while Comet is rarer, but more potent. Pyro costs 10 mp for both twins while Comet is 20 mp for both. Should have a nice stock of Tents available so this shouldn't be an issue going to the mountain. Before leaving Mysidia though, check the shops. You'll want to get Mage Hats, Gaea Gears, and Silver Rings for the twins along with a Light Helm, Knight Armor, and Gauntlets. The latter three items can't be used by anyone...yet. As for weapons, get Palom some kind of elemental rod and a Healing Staff or Long Bow + Fire Arrows for Porom. In the item shop, there's lots of good stuff to buy. Getting some Hi Potions and Lifes is a good idea here. When you're ready, set out from Mysidia and head east. You'll have to curve north & south as you do so, but you should run into the mountain eventually. More next time!
