"God of Grace and God of Glory" was written by Baptist minister Harry Emerson Fosdick for the opening of the non-denominational Riverside Church in New York, built for him by John D Rockerfeller in February 1931. The tune is 'Cwm Rhondda (Rhondda Valley)', composed in 1907 by John Hughes. Fosdick had actually written the words to fit the tune 'Regent Square' by Henry Smart and was unhappy that Robert G McCuthan paired it with Cwm Rhondda for the 1935 Methodist Hymnal. It is performed here by Uzee Brown Jr, James Abbington & the Uzee Brown Society of Choraliers. Video background by Chet Valley Hymns and Songs: from Loddon churchyard to Chedgrave, South Norfolk.
