Our July monthly gathering features the first graduate of the Clergy Project and author of the new book "Hope after Faith: An Ex-Pastor's Journey from Belief to Atheism", Jerry DeWitt. Jerry is a former Pentecostal minister of two evangelical churches in Deridder, Louisiana. He came out publicly as an atheist in 2011, the first to do so from The Clergy Project, a confidential program for ministers who secretly no longer believe. He went on to become Executive Director of Recovering From Religion, a program for those who are transitioning out of the world of religion, and has just released his first book, "Hope After Faith". Jerry's story has been covered by several national media outlets, including The New York Times, CNN, and NPR. Humanists of Houston is Houston's original freethought community.
