African American Women’s PTSD Likely to be Untreated

Presenters: Nicole Arcuri Sanders, & Erika Hill African American women are taught from family and religious structures that stress is a sign of weakness and lack of religious faith (Johnson, Williams, & Pickard, 2016). Many African American women will not seek mental health services due to cognitive conditioning (Bryant-Davis, 2007). This presentation intends to educate participants on cultural influences barring African American women from seeking mental health treatment and advocacy interventions to combat stigmatization.
