Palestinian president signs deals with India

(16 May 2017) Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday during his visit to New Delhi. Abbas was earlier greeted by Modi and Indian President Pranab Mukherjee at the presidential palace in the Indian capital. The two sides signed several agreements on cooperation in the fields of health, technology, agriculture, and youth affairs. Abbas is on a four-day visit to India in an effort to boost bilateral ties with the South Asian nation. Addressing the media after meeting with Abbas, Modi called for an "early resumption" of talks between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, and hoped a "comprehensive resolution," could be reached. Abbas' visit to India comes ahead of Modi's proposed trip to Israel later this year, the first by an Indian prime minister.
