Western Digital Caviar 2850

The Western Digital Caviar 2850 is a hard disk drive type from 1996 with a capacity of 853.6 MB (or 814 MiB). It has two platters and four heads. The sound it makes during the spin-up is the most interesting thing about it, in my opinion. It is quite unlike that of any other hard disk I'm familiar with. The one in the middle (September 1996) is the hard disk of my Siemens Nixdorf Scenic 5H, and despite the dent in the case, it is still quite capable of running Windows NT 4.0. The one on the right (June 1996) has Windows 98 SE installed on it, and is also fully operational. When these two are powered on simultaneously, the one on the right finishes first with its start-up sound for some reason. However, the one on the left (September 1996) experienced a click of death about 7 years ago and has not functioned correctly since. Instead of throwing it away, I saved it and opened the case to view the inner workings. Note that when powered on, it seems to randomly move the head (and scratch the surface a bit) before finally powering down on its own.
