Hollywood stars with a Northeast connection: Though it seldom crossed our mind, NE India has a strong Hollywood connects, some of these are : a) Julie Christie: Academy Award winning actress , Julie Christie famous for her role in the film “Darling", “Doctor Zhivago” and “Away From Her” was born on 14 April 1940 in Dibrugarh, Assam, British India. b) Vivien Leigh: The famous Vivien Leigh was born on November 5, 1913, in Darjeeling, British India. c) Erick Avari : Born in Darjeeling, India. His film credits include The Mummy, Home Alone 4 and Planet of the Apes d) Helen Haye : Believed to be Britain’s oldest working actress she was born in Assam. She was known for The 39 Steps (1935), The Skin Game (1931) and Hobson’s choice (1954). e) Joni Flynn : Joni Flynn : She was born on December 18, 1949 in Assam, India. She has starred in movies like Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975), Octopussy (1983) and Felicity (1978). f) Karen David : Born in Shillong, Meghalaya, to a Khasi mother and South-Indian father. She collaborated with A.R. Rahman on the Broadway musical, Bombay Dreams. She is also known for her role in The Scorpion King 2: Rise of Warrior. 3. Earthquake jolts Northeast India for the 2nd time in October: This week, an earthquake of moderate intensity measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale with a depth of 10 km struck Shillong and adjoining areas. 4.
