Vitalik suggested that if dogecoin is to really speed up block times by 10 times, increase the block size by 10 times and decrease fees by 100 times, then it'd be a good idea to use Ethereum to do it. The idea is to take advantage of something called Merged Mining. This is when one cryptocurrency's proof-of-work algorithm is dependent on the proof-of-work algorithm of another chain.
