He was born on April 24, 1851 in Pella, Iowa, to Nicholas Porter Earp and his second wife, Virginia Cooksey. This actually made Morgan a half-brother to Newton, James, Virgil, and Wyatt. Morgan spent his younger years traveling and working throughout the west and occasionally served as a Deputy U.S. Marshal. In 1881, he joined his brothers, Virgil and Wyatt, in the bustling mining town of Tombstone, Arizona Territory. Morgan participated in the famous shootout at the O.K. Corral, which was actually a brief 30-second firefight that took place in a vacant lot off Fremont Street behind the O.K. Corral. Three members of the “Cowboys” were killed that day from the guns of the three Earp brothers and Doc Holliday. About five months later, the Cowboys got their revenge when they assassinated Morgan Earp on the night of March 18, 1882. He is currently buried in Hermosa Gardens Cemetery in Colton, CA.
