Homily for Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph 12 28 25 A

Father Damian reminded the us that Christmas is a season, not a single day, and that the Feast of the Holy Family placed within it invites us to look beyond romanticized images of Christmas. He explained that Scripture presents the Holy Family as deeply human and surrounded by darkness, uncertainty, and danger, with Joseph emerging as a silent but faithful figure who consistently trusts God and acts with compassion. Joseph’s justice, Father Damian said, is not about rigid rule-keeping, but about mercy, care, and courage in the face of fear and confusion. Through Joseph’s willingness to listen to God and do what is right, even when it was difficult, the family becomes holy rather than perfect. Father Damian concluded by encouraging all families to be light in a dark world, living faithfully and lovingly despite struggles, just as the Holy Family did.
