Instant Analysis from USC’s Tuesday practice of San Jose State Week

In this edition of Instant Analysis, USCFootball.com reporters Jack Smith and Connor Morrissette discuss news and notes from USC's first game week practice open to the media. The two talk about the news that veteran defensive lineman Solomon Tuliaupupu underwent a season-ending lower body procedure today, as announced officially by Lincoln Riley. Tuliaupupu has been plagued by injuries throughout his long USC career and will now look to be granted a seventh year of eligibility as he hopes to return for the Trojans in 2024. On top of the news of Tuliaupupu's injury, Jack and Connor covered their practice observations highlighted by the news that linebacker Tackett Curtis and cornerback Domani Jackson were working with the first-team defense against the scout team offense. Linebackers Eric Gentry and Shane Lee were working with the second-team and third-team respectively. With a myriad of defensive players available for interview, one of the biggest talking points of the day was San José State quarterback Chevan Cordeiro. Cordeiro is the preseason Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year and will bring his unique ability to beat teams with his arm and his legs into the Coliseum on Saturday. Cordeiro rushed for nine touchdowns last season with the Spartans so Jack and Connor touched on how USC defenders feel about their ability to stop rushing quarterbacks in 2023. In closing, Jack and Connor also bring up notes on linebacker Mason Cobb being named a captain, San José State's confusing offensive line, and much more! USC opens just one more practice to the media this week before shifting focus to the matchup against San José State in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Saturday night.
