美 캘리포니아 산불 다시 악화...최소 21명 사망 Firefighters in California are still battling unprecedented wildfires that have now killed at least 21 people. Resurgent winds and bone-dry conditions are sparking fears of the flames spreading even further. Ro Aram reports. Optimism isn't high at the moment as winds are expected to pick back up after dying down earlier this week. Dry conditions are not helping either, and there is no rain in the forecast for the next few days. Firefighters fear stronger winds will not only fan the flames, but cause embers to fly anywhere, which could start new fires. Gusts of up to 80 kilometers per hour and 10 percent humidity were forecast for Wednesday and Thursday for parts of the Northern California fire zone. About three and a half thousand buildings have been reduced to ash and a rash of 22 blazes spanning nine counties have scorched nearly 170-thousand acres. Sonoma County is among the worst hit, with hundreds there alone still reported missing. It was unclear how many might be actual fire victims rather than evacuees who merely failed to check in with authorities after fleeing their homes. Officials expect the death toll to rise from the current 21 as there are some burnt buildings that are yet to be searched for bodies. It is believed to mark the greatest loss of life from a California wildfire event in 26 years. Officials suggested Wednesday that people who have been advised to prepare for evacuations to just go anyway ... as traffic could worsen and fires could spread anywhere. Ro Aram, Arirang News.
