Statistics show crime was down in Cincinnati in 2014

CINCINNATI (Perry Schaible) -- Cincinnati leaders are at city hall Tuesday to talk about crime statistics. The 2014 numbers show a significant drop in key categories in some neighborhoods. Chief Jeffrey Blackwell, the district captains and others spoke about how crime is at a ten year low in the city and engagement with the community is up. Homicides were down in 2014, compared to 2013. That's 11 fewer victims. Shootings decreased 13 percent. Robberies and burglaries are down as well. Police credit the statistic-based approach they've taken. They're tackling crime street by street, block by block. Extra patrols are designated in certain neighborhoods that have been dissented as hot spots. "Crime is at a ten-year low in Cincinnati as a result of the reconstitution of CIRV, the hard work of our officers, and the synergy of a myriad of enforcement strategies and collaborative efforts of our department with the community," said Police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell. "It's the spirit of unity and everything working in tandem that's making a real difference in Cincinnati." Follow Perry Schaible on Twitter @Local12Perry and LIKE her on Facebook.
