Due to its availability in abundance and emission free existence, renewable energy sources have gained significant popularity in the recent past. Wind power generation has developed at a rapid pace compared with the other renewable energy sources. Wind farm must ensure the quality of the power supply to the grid like most of other conventional power plant. Harmonic is one of the important issues that relate in wind farm which occur due to variable of wind speed, converter switching in wind turbine and non-linear load. It can cause the equipment to overheat, power factor reduction and sometimes damage. Thus, devices such as active power filter (APF), passive power filter (PPF) and Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) has been created to solve this problem in grid system. This paper focuses on the design and application of type 3 wind turbine (DFIG) and three phase shunt passive power filter as mitigation method. A simulation was carried out using MATLAB Simulink software to analysis the results. In order to mitigate the harmonics, passive power filter was connected to the grid. The results of the simulation obtained indicated the power quality of DFIG wind farm with respect to percentage of total harmonic distortion. #fyp Contact supervisor: Assoc.
