Sharing Electoral Excellence with India's Neighbours

In October 2014, the west Indian state of Maharashtra held elections to the state assembly, where an estimated 52 million voted for over 4000 candidates. On this occasion, UNDP and the Election Commission of India facilitated the visit of a delegation of Election Management Bodies from seven South Asian countries to the city of Pune to witness the counting of votes. They included the Election Commissioners and senior Electoral Officers of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
