They really said lets just bring back all these characters that in total as a collective unit have barely 10mins of screen time lol. Jokes aside its rather interesting that Aot can even utilized characters that (you would think) had little relevance to the story and use them as anchor points to further expand on said story. Its rather smart to use them this way, to put faces to things happening making them feel more weighted/personal as we are already accustomed to these character even tho we only knew them briefly.
