Arc Resistance Test for 8000A Generator Circuit Breaker

This medium voltage Generator Circuit Breaker (GCB) from Electro-Tech Industries in Houston, Texas was subjected to a series of extreme tests to certify it as explosion-proof and IP66. The video depicts an arc resistance test carried out at KEMA laboratories. The fire exiting around the edges was a prototype design flaw that was fixed in later iterations. Despite that, the sensors surrounding the enclosure confirmed the safety of persons hypothetically in the proximity of an arc flash explosion. The over-designed corrugated steel structure successfully passed this arc resistance test.
