Third Burroughs, Mount Rainier - Washington State

The Burroughs Mountain hiking trail, starting at the Sunrise trail head in Mount Rainier National Park, is well known for its fantastic vistas and wide open tundra-like terrain. Most hikers stop at the First, or Second Burroughs summits, but continuing on to the Third Burroughs, you are rewarded with an up-close view of the massive Winthrop Glacier, with its endless succession of ice ridges, as they slide and tumble evermore downward. During our hike, forest fire smoke particularly obscured Mount Rainier, but seeing the largest concentration of glaciers in the USA outside of Alaska and witnessing their awesome power is something you truly need to experience to fully appreciate.
