Six Egyptian security officers kidnapped in the Sinai have been released by the suspected militants holding them. Seven security personnel were abducted on last week by armed men who demanded in return for their freedom the release of a group of militant prisoners being held at a police station in el-Arish. One policeman was released by the militants shortly after capture as a sign of good will. It is not clear if the captors demands were met but the release of the six followed a security buildup and a massive show of force by the military in northern Sinai, which borders the Gaza Strip and Israel.
