Here's my take on Jimmy Van Heusen and Phil Silvers' 'Nancy (with the Laughing Face)', recorded live at Mr. Vain / mrvainbrisbane and featuring Mason Harvey on tenor sax / masonhjazz Van Heusen and Silvers originally wrote the song as 'Bessie (with the Laughing Face)', as a birthday present for lyricist Johnny Burke's wife, Bessie. According to music historian Rick Busciglio, "It was such a hit that they used it at other female birthday events. When they sang it as 'Nancy (with the Laughing Face)' at little Nancy Sinatra's birthday party, Frank broke down and cried, thinking it had been written especially for his daughter; the trio wisely didn't correct him." Soon after, in 1944, Frank Sinatra made the first commercial recording, and it has also been sung by Ray Charles, Keely Smith, Tony Bennett, James Moody, Kurt Elling, and many others. I hope you enjoy it! ---------- Subscribe: / @jordanasmussen Merch: https://jordanasmussen.myspreadshop.c...
